
Delonza “Flip” Simmons, also known as Coach Flip, is a native and current resident of Charleston, SC. For over 14 years, he has proudly managed the Shaw Community Center, coaching youth and adults to enhance their fitness mindset for personal growth in mind, body, and spirit. He is also the founder of The Flip League basketball program serving over 400 kids in the Charleston area.

Albert Waiters (1987-2025) was a lifelong Charleston resident who was born and raised in the historic Elliottborough neighborhood of downtown Charleston. He was passionate about helping young men avoid the dangers of gang life as well as creating community solutions to end gun violence in Charleston. Albert passed away shortly after filming, and the documentary is dedicated to his memory.

Rev. Dr. Dallas Wilson, Jr., also known as Brother Dallas, is the pastor of Agape Inner City Community Church located on the Eastside of downtown Charleston. Not only has Brother Dallas ministered on the Eastside for the past 40 years, he also lives in the Eastside community with his wife, Dr. Janie D. Wilson, who is the Founder and President of The Peninsula Biblical Counseling Ministries (PBCM).

Coach Edward Jones is a community organizer and co-founder of the nonprofit Concerned Citizens of Peninsula/Lowcountry. He partners with the city of Charleston to offer sports and youth programming in the Eastside community, where he grew up and still calls home. He has been mentoring children and teens in the Charleston community for 47 years.

John Tecklenburg is an entrepreneur who served as the 61st mayor of Charleston, SC. He was sworn in on January 11, 2016, just six months after the tragic shooting at Mother Emanuel AME. In June of 2020, Mayor Tecklenburg led the city in its effort to remove the statue of John C. Calhoun, a prominent South Carolinian defender of slavery, from Marion Square in downtown Charleston.

Dr. Bernard Powers, Jr. earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in American history at Northwestern University and in 2018 retired as professor emeritus of history at the College of Charleston, where he taught in the Department of History from 1992 to 2018. Currently, Dr. Powers serves as the founding director of the College of Charleston’s Center for the Study of Slavery in Charleston.

Ann Caldwell is a singer, songwriter and story teller. She has the quiet energy of a windmill yet the soulful voice and power of a locomotive. She leads the Magnolia Singers, a Charleston based performance group that sings Gullah spirituals and tells stories indigenous to the South Carolina Lowcountry. They have been performing together since 1998.

Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove is a pastor, community activist and author of Reconstructing the Gospel and Revolution of Values. He currently serves as the Assistant Director at the Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at Yale Divinity School. His latest book, with Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, is White Poverty: How Exposing Myths About Race and Class Can Reconstruct America.

Herb Frazier is a journalist and an author based in Charleston, SC. He is the special projects editor for the Charleston City Paper and the former marketing director at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston. Before he joined Magnolia, Herb edited and reported for five daily newspapers in the South, including his hometown paper, The Post and Courier.

Rev. Eric Manning is the Senior Pastor of Mother Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston, SC. He was called to lead the church one year after the tragic shooting on June 17, 2015 that claimed the life of Rev. Clementa Pinckney and eight others at a weekly Bible study. He has led the church as Senior Pastor since that time and continues to navigate his congregation through the difficult process of healing and restoration.
